In Morocco, horsemanship has long been a language of honor, from the discipline of the cavalry to the ceremonial harmony of the fantasia, where gesture, control and respect define mastery. Polo naturally finds its place within this tradition: not as a foreign sport imposed on the land, but as a continuation of an ancient conversation between rider and mount.

While modern polo often celebrates power, the origins of the game speak of balance , the distance between two strides, the softness of a hand, a decision taken in a fraction of silence. Here the field offers space and air, allowing intuition to replace urgency, and every match becomes a dialogue between partners, opponents, horse and ground. Polo is much more than a competition, it is elegance in motion, a discipline where respect shapes the game as much as skill.

Polo in Morocco developed in the early 20th century, introduced from India by English diplomats and businessmen. By the mid 1950s, under the influence of British communities living in Tangier, Polo Clubs gradually formed, promoting sporting exchanges between Moroccan players and British officers. After independence, polo continued to be played and gained visibility among local and foreign elites. In 1957, the visit of Clementine Churchill, wife of Winston Churchill, to Tangier’s Polo Club illustrated the close link between British high society and Moroccan equestrian circles. The presence of English personalities during this period helped to reinforce the prestige of polo in the region. Tangier established itself as a crossroads where Moroccan traditions and British influences came together around this aristocratic sport.
